The Best Supplements For Building Muscle Mass

The Best Way To Gain Muscle Mass

What are The Best Supplements For Building Muscle Mass? To even begin to answer this truthfully, an understanding of the industry first needs to be addressed. Forbes (2013), revealed a statistic back in 2012 that the Nutritional Supplement industry profited a total of $32 billion, and it is projected to be at $60 billion by 2021. So far in 2018, the industry is on track with this projection.

This will help you save tons of money and false hopes, and instead, help you focus on things that will give you the gains you are looking for. Don’t let those flashy adds and videos fool you!

In the athlete and bodybuilding arena, creatine, which is a form of natural amino acid in nature and the human body, is by far the best and most effective thing you can take to get optimal results.

More than a decades worth of studies have shown that creatine supplementation will build muscle faster, help you get stronger faster, improve anaerobic endurance, and improve muscle recovery than any other supplement on the market today. It benefits all the things you want in the fitness category, and especially for building muscle.

This best part is, not only will you get great gains and results from taking creatine, it is completely safe for the body. Creatine is actually found in our bodies already along with the many foods we eat such as eggs, fish, and meats.

Protein Powder

Protein Powder is another great natural supplement to take. You can also take it alongside your creatine supplementation as well to multiply gains and results. However, keep in mind that if you are not looking to build a ton of mass, you really do not need protein. Where with creatine, it benefits anyone who is looking to do any kind of fitness training.

A normal healthy diet will usually be more than enough calorie and protein intake to support any fitness routine. This is why often times many people use protein supplements and find themselves gaining weight or not noticing results.

However, if really bulking up and gaining muscle mass beyond just normal limits is what you seek, then you definitely need to supplement protein in your diet.

Beta-Alanine is also an amino acid like creatine. However, it is not a needed ingredient in our diet because the human body creates it already unlike creatine where it is consumed and absorbed.

It is used in the body for the muscle and the brain to make carnosine molecules which in turn help the muscles not contract as much so they do not get tired as easily. This allows you to perform better and do more workload before you run out of fuel.

Though a study done back in 2012 showed that this supplement works, the benefits were short lived and minor.

If you are a bodybuilder and want to use this supplement right, you will increase the benefits and make this supplement worth the time an effort by combining it with your creatine intake. Otherwise you are just wasting your money and it will be nothing more than a placebo.

IT’S A SHAM!!! Probably the biggest scam in the nutritional industry today! Can our bodies benefit from higher testosterone counts…sure! However, this is a huge money making part of the nutritional supplement industry that has all men running scared as the supplement companies have connected the struggle to gain muscle and good health results with the lack of testosterone levels.

The truth of the matter is your lack of testosterone can be solved simply by changing your diet and becoming more active. Just look at the testosterone adds and videos. They often discuss our low activity and diet as the culprit to lower testosterone. That is why they come with a program that involves a diet and sometimes workout routine do take with the supplement…interesting!

They know that there is a huge population of aged males in the market who are experiencing symptoms of lower testosterone whether naturally or due to poor dieting and nutrition. Therefore, the natural reaction for them is to create a quick fix solution…and in the form of a pill no less…a pill you are willing to pay for in order to take a fast road to a muscular bod. Make no mistake, they are taking you for a joyride and you are paying for it!

The fact of the matter is though testosterone can benefit your health and results, it is not the kind of results you see on their adds with the models showing off their rippling muscles. Most testosterone supplements do not raise testosterone levels, and come completely loaded with junk that actually do not benefit you in any way.

Also, keep in mind few of the models and speakers they use to advertise the supplement even take it themselves. The truth and irony of it is all of them most likely are taking creatine, protein powder, and possibly even beta-alanine.

Unless prescribed by a doctor, if you are consuming testosterone supplements for bodybuilding and fitness…throw them in the trash and do not look back!

Branch-Chain Amino Acids (BCAA)

Branch-chain amino acids (BCAA) are the big jug of goop you may be seeing the guys at the gym drinking out of. Ultimately, it is a newer fad to hit the market, but has quickly shown to be another supplementation ploy. Believe me when I write, this is such an overrated product.

If you are unfamiliar with this supplement, in short, it is consumed to reduce your recovery time and get you back into the game. However, when you dig further into the studies done, you will quickly realize that it is as useless as testosterone supplementation.

With that said, unlike most testosterone supplements, it is not a complete sham. BCAA intake does actually produce real results, but only unless you are working out for several hours in a day like a professional athlete. For people like you and me, it is really quite useless and a waste of money.

There is the argument that it has health benefits such as increased immune system, improved glucose metabolism, and an increased glucose intake for the muscles. However, a lot of research shows these benefits to be minimal. In fact, a regular healthy diet will offer many more benefits than BCAA intake, and will yield better results. So if you see a meathead in the gym with a pink jug of goop…just smile your head and nod like me.

B-Hydroxy B-Methylbutyrate (HMB)

B-Hydroxy B-Methylbutyrate (HMB) really hit the market craze hard, and as fast as it blew up, it’s light is going out even faster. To make a long story short, the issue with this supplement is that when it comes to a body builder the numbers are not looking good. Many of the original tests that showed positive results were performed by the inventor of HMB, Steven Nissen.

To add to that, the other tests not performed by Steven Nissen that had shown good results were not very accurate and it’s hard to find any valid tests that accurately reveal positive results. This leads to me to believe that the promoters of this supplement who are saying it is more anabolic than steroids are full of it. So do not believe the hype and just ignore this one!

The Bottom Line

The best supplement you can use in order to build muscle mass effectively is creatine. Protein and beta-alanine are effective in certain situations, but will multiply the benefits when taken properly alongside creatine. Many of the hyped up supplements that are out there look great, especially when the models are all chiseled out like Greek gods.

Keep in mind however, that those very models are not taking testosterone pills, BCAA’s, or HMB’s. They are most likely taking creatine, protein powder, and/or beta-alanine along with an awesome diet and workout routine.

So if you want to save your money and use supplements that work, you know which ones to do! Good luck with your results, and any questions or info you’d like to add you can put in the comment section.

  1. Hi Bruce,
One of the best supplements articles I have read in a long time. I have a very fast metabolism and not only find it hard to gain weight, but to keep it. Creatine together with the protein powder sounds like the best way for me to go. I’m no longer interested in the sculpted body look, just in keeping weight and energy levels up. My son (17 years old) also has a fast metabolism, always wanting to try the newest “fast results” thing out on the market. Guess I’ll show him this and let him make up his own mind.

    • Creatine is a great choice for you as it will keep you lean and strengthen your muscles and continue to feed that metabolism. Make sure your doing a lot of cardio for the protein or you could find yourself gaining weight depending on how you take it. However, it would most likely be muscle if your working out a lot which isn’t such a bad thing!

  2. Hi,
I love going to the gym and also go out running as I believe it’s good to keep fit and healthy (especially the older we get).
I do take creatine as I have read about the benefits before. I also drink protein powder, normally in the morning and after exercising, depending on what protein I will be getting with my meal.
There are a few other supplements you mention that I will look into now so thank you for the great information.
    Best wishes,

  3. Your article was very informative and provided a lot of useful information. I am glad to find out that it is a scam when some companies sell supplements to increase testosterone levels while all you need to do is exercise and eat a proper diet.

  4. Really, it is that simple…exercise and eat a good diet. Just by changing the diet you will change everything! Supplements (the right ones) are geared to speed up the process and increase results.
