They know that there is a huge population of aged males in the market who are experiencing symptoms of lower testosterone whether naturally or due to poor dieting and nutrition. Therefore, the natural reaction for them is to create a quick fix solution…and in the form of a pill no less…a pill you are willing to pay for in order to take a fast road to a muscular bod. With that said, unlike most testosterone supplements, it is not a complete sham. BCAA intake does actually produce real results, but only unless you are working out for several hours in a day like a professional athlete. For people like you and me, it is really quite useless and a waste of money.

There is the argument that it has health benefits such as increased immune system, improved glucose metabolism, and an increased glucose intake for the muscles. However, a lot of research shows these benefits to be minimal. In fact, a regular healthy diet will offer many more benefits than BCAA intake, and will yield better results. So if you see a meathead in the gym with a pink jug of goop…just smile your head and nod like me.

B-Hydroxy B-Methylbutyrate (HMB) really hit the market craze hard, and as fast as it blew up, it’s light is going out even faster. To make a long story short, the issue with this supplement is that when it comes to a body builder the numbers are not looking good. Many of the original tests that showed positive results were performed by the inventor of HMB, Steven Nissen.

To add to that, the other tests not performed by Steven Nissen that had shown good results were not very accurate and it’s hard to find any valid tests that accurately reveal positive results. This leads to me to believe that the promoters of this supplement who are saying it is more anabolic than steroids are full of it. So do not believe the hype and just ignore this one!

    One of the best supplements articles I have read in a long time. I have a very fast metabolism and not only find it hard to gain weight, but to keep it. Creatine together with the protein powder sounds like the best way for me to go. I’m no longer interested in the sculpted body look, just in keeping weight and energy levels up. My son (17 years old) also has a fast metabolism, always wanting to try the newest “fast results” thing out on the market. Guess I’ll show him this and let him make up his own mind.

    • Creatine is a great choice for you as it will keep you lean and strengthen your muscles and continue to feed that metabolism. Make sure your doing a lot of cardio for the protein or you could find yourself gaining weight depending on how you take it. However, it would most likely be muscle if your working out a lot which isn’t such a bad thing!

    I love going to the gym and also go out running as I believe it’s good to keep fit and healthy (especially the older we get).
    I do take creatine as I have read about the benefits before. I also drink protein powder, normally in the morning and after exercising, depending on what protein I will be getting with my meal.
    There are a few other supplements you mention that I will look into now so thank you for the great information.

  4. Really, it is that simple…exercise and eat a good diet. Just by changing the diet you will change everything! Supplements (the right ones) are geared to speed up the process and increase results.
